PM Modi highlighted the Constitution’s role in navigating the country through challenges over the past 75 years. This year, for the first time, Constitution Day was celebrated in Jammu and Kashmir, marking a historic milestone.
Milestones in Development
The Prime Minister reflected on India’s developmental progress, noting that even after 75 years of independence, only three crore households had access to piped water. However, under the Jal Jeevan Mission, this number has increased significantly. He also shared that over the last decade, 53 crore bank accounts were opened for Indians who were previously excluded from the formal banking system, and more than four crore houses were built, ensuring better living conditions for millions.
Advancements in Digital Services
PM Modi shed light on the government’s efforts to make everyday life easier for citizens. He highlighted the introduction of digital life certificates for senior citizens, eliminating the need for them to physically visit banks to prove their existence. Additionally, he mentioned how the electrification of rural areas, the installation of thousands of mobile towers, and the expansion of 4G and 5G connectivity have transformed remote regions across the country.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the original manuscript of the Constitution features illustrations of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita, symbolizing Indian cultural values. Referring to Dr. Rajendra Prasad’s message during the Constituent Assembly debates, he emphasized the need for honest leadership that prioritizes national interest above personal gain.

Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna also spoke at the event, emphasizing the judiciary’s role in upholding transparency and accountability. He described India’s constitutional courts as among the most powerful in the world and stressed the importance of judicial decisions being open to public scrutiny. Justice Khanna affirmed that the judiciary’s primary responsibility is to serve the people, and its strength lies in being transparent and responsive.
