Eknath Shinde Returns to Mumbai, CM Announcement Expected Tomorrow

Caretaker CM Recuperates in Satara

Satara/Mumbai: Amid speculation over Maharashtra’s next Chief Minister, caretaker Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde returned to Mumbai on Sunday after recuperating at his native village in Satara. Following a brief illness and a grueling election schedule, Shinde spent two days in his hometown before heading back to the state capital.

Upon departure, Shinde received a guard of honor from the Satara police. Addressing the media before leaving, he assured that the Chief Ministerial decision for the Mahayuti alliance government will be finalized on Monday. “I have already extended my unconditional support to the decision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP President JP Nadda,” Shinde said.

Historic Mandate for Mahayuti Alliance
The Mahayuti alliance, comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), and Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), secured a landslide victory in the Maharashtra Assembly elections held recently. The BJP emerged as the single-largest party with 132 seats in the 280-member Assembly. Its allies, the Shiv Sena and NCP, won 57 and 41 seats, respectively.

The overwhelming mandate left the opposition with no opportunity to elect a Leader of the Opposition, further cementing the alliance’s dominance.

Shinde Highlights Mahayuti’s Unity
Shinde emphasized the unity among the Mahayuti allies, stating, “Our government’s work over the last two and a half years has earned us this historic mandate. All three allies share a strong understanding and commitment to the people of Maharashtra. The Chief Minister candidate will be decided tomorrow.”

While Shinde remains a key leader, speculation persists that Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is the frontrunner for the top position.

Meeting with BJP Leadership in Delhi
On Thursday, Shinde, Fadnavis, NCP chief Ajit Pawar and other senior Mahayuti leaders held discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda in Delhi. The meeting aimed to resolve the deadlock over the Chief Ministerial post.

The decision-making process has garnered significant attention, with many viewing the delay as a result of internal power-sharing negotiations among the alliance partners.

Shinde Assures Public of Stability
During his brief stay in Satara, Shinde reassured reporters about his health and reiterated his dedication to serving the state. “I didn’t take any leave during my two and a half years as Chief Minister. Even here in Satara, people continued to visit me. This government will always prioritize the people’s needs,” he said.

Shinde’s statements reflect the alliance’s confidence in ensuring political stability and governance in Maharashtra.

What Lies Ahead
With the BJP holding the majority within the alliance, the decision on the Chief Ministerial candidate is expected to shape the future of the state’s political landscape. The announcement, scheduled for Monday, will officially conclude the suspense and set the course for Maharashtra’s next government.

As Maharashtra awaits the decision, Shinde’s remarks highlight his commitment to unity and stability within the Mahayuti alliance, ensuring continuity in governance for the people of the state.
