Mahayuti Government’s Oath-Taking Ceremony Scheduled for December 5 at Azad Maidan
Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Grace the Event; CM Announcement Anticipated Soon
Mumbai, Maharashtra [India]: The much-awaited swearing-in ceremony of Maharashtra’s newly elected Mahayuti (Grand Alliance) government is set to take place on December 5, 2024. The announcement was made by BJP state president Chandrashekhar Bawankule, who confirmed that the event will be held at Azad Maidan, Mumbai, at 5 PM in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Mahayuti coalition, comprising the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction), and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) under Ajit Pawar, recently secured a sweeping victory in the Maharashtra Assembly elections. However, suspense continues over the declaration of the alliance’s Chief Minister.
PM Modi to Attend Grand Ceremony
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Bawankule expressed excitement about the event. “Oath-taking ceremony of the Maha-Yuti Government in Maharashtra will be held in the presence of the pride of the world, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 5 PM at Azad Maidan, Mumbai,” his post read.

Preparations for the grand event are already underway, with BJP and its allies working to ensure a seamless ceremony.
Eknath Shinde’s Decision Expected by Sunday
Adding to the political buzz, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Shirsat revealed that caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is likely to make a “big decision” by Sunday. “Whenever Shinde wants to reflect on significant matters, he travels to his native village. By tomorrow evening, he is expected to take an important political decision. Everything will become clear by Monday evening,” Shirsat told ANI.
This development has intensified speculation over the Chief Minister’s post and the allocation of key ministries among Mahayuti allies. Shirsat also hinted at the possibility of the oath-taking ceremony happening earlier than December 5, depending on the progress of internal discussions.
Mahayuti Leaders Hold High-Level Meetings
Ahead of the announcement, key Mahayuti leaders, including Eknath Shinde, BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis, and NCP chief Ajit Pawar, met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president JP Nadda in New Delhi on Thursday night. The meeting, which also included other alliance members, was reportedly aimed at finalizing the government structure and resolving pending decisions.
BJP Secures Dominant Position in Assembly
The Mahayuti alliance secured a landslide victory in the Maharashtra Assembly elections held earlier this month. Results declared on November 23 showed the BJP emerging as the largest party, winning 132 seats in the 280-member Assembly. Its allies, the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) and the NCP (Ajit Pawar faction), bagged 57 and 41 seats, respectively, solidifying their combined majority. Despite their electoral success, the alliance has yet to finalize its Chief Ministerial candidate, keeping political observers and the public on edge.
What Lies Ahead?
With the swearing-in ceremony confirmed and high-stakes decisions expected in the coming days, all eyes are on the Mahayuti leadership. The political landscape of Maharashtra remains charged, with anticipation building over the alliance’s final moves. The upcoming days are critical for the coalition, as they must not only settle leadership questions but also ensure smooth governance in the state, reflecting the overwhelming mandate they have received.
